Well, on Thursday, June 28th, you can have the chance to listen in as Todd Falcone dials MLM Leads and prospects them live.  I believe that live lead dialing is the best training available when it comes to learning the MLM prospecting ropes.  It is invaluable to hear the posture, attitude and control of someone that has created millions of dollars through prospecting.

Quixtar's Rocky Convington MonaVie?

Amway/Quixtar Rumor Mill:

In the past I have been able to pinpoint news about people within the world of Network Marketing based on what people are searching for and how they find my site.

Examples of this in the past was, Quixtar's Larry Winters breaking away from Bill Britt's BWW and John Crowe doing the same.

Today I received some search results that link Quixtar's Rocky Convington with MonaVie.

In no way shape or form am I saying that Rocky Convington has joined MonaVie, only that people are searching for "Rocky Covington" and "MonaVie" and finding my site.

Nertwork Marketing Leveraging Technology

Webinar When I was actively building the Amway/Quixtar business we used home and hotel meetings as the primary method to introduce a person to the business. Today, I still believe that face to face meetings are a vital part of building a Network Marketing business.

However, let's talk about numbers.  In Amway/Quixtar a person that gets two people to a meeting is looked upon as a superstar. By contrast, when I am actively looking to bring new talent into my business today, I might show 15 qualified people in a week using conference calls, webinars and other technology tools at my disposal.  The likelihood of someone in Amway/Quixtar sponsoring 6 people in a week is very low, but those types of sponsoring numbers happen all of the time when technology is leveraged.

The challenge is finding a happy medium between face to face and technology, but when you are using technology to help you present your business, you can spend the face to face time having fun and getting to know the team.

MLM Blog is now officially at MLMBlog.net

The MLM Blog is now officially mapped to MLMBlog.net. All of the mlmblog.typepad.com links will still work including all of the categories and individual posts that have been linked to over the last 3 plus years.

You can also see the newly mapped Amway Blog at AmwayBlog.com.  Given the announcement that Quixtar is being phased out with Amway coming back in the U.S., the Amway Blog will become a lot more active.  I have a plan in place that will make sure the site is updated on a regular basis.

Thanks for reading!

Orrin Woodward - Chris Brady TEAM Leaving Quixtar?

This goes in the MLM Rumor Mill category...

According to a post on the Quixtar Blog Forum, the TEAM is threatening to leave the Amway/Quixtar business model if the company goes through with changing the name back to Amway.

The TEAM is led by Orrin Woodward and Chris Brady and the forum post mentions Chris Brady as the person that told "everyone on the TEAM" that if Quixtar changes it's name to Amway, the TEAM is "outta here".

The TEAM (a Quixtar support system) gained a lot of momentum a couple of years ago because of it's stacking method of business building.  I haven't heard much about them over the last year or so.

MLM Blog Domain Mapping

I am in the process of mapping this site to MLMBlog.net.  The old mlmblog.typepad.com domain name will always work but I thought it was about time to make MLMBlog.net a little more official. So very soon (hopefully within hours) MLMBlog.net will be up and running as a stand alone domain with all of the MLM Blog content from the past.

I am doing the same for the Amway Blog - AmwayBlog.com and Work At Home Dad -  WorkAtHomeDad.info.

So as I am writing this the MLMBlog.net URL is not working.  Don't worry, I am not going anywhere and this site will continue to provide you with the latest news and commentary about the MLM industry.

Once this all gets set up, the only difference you might notice is that when you enter the site using MLMBlog.net, it will no longer forward to MLMBlog.typepad.com. Instead the web address will remain MLMBlog.net. It's just less confusing and a little more professional.

Happy Sunday!

Bill Britt Refusing to Reimburse UK BWW IBO's for Canceled Meetings

Here is an update about Bill Britt's actions in the UK related to his BWW support system:

It would appear another potential lawsuit is on the horizon. Britt Worldwide dream builders and other network marketing mlm organizations have given the impression they were waiting for Amway to reimburse and compensate them for canceled functions.

My source, who is a diamond has told me they were given the distinct impression by Amway personnel that they would be compensated by then, for cancelled funtions. He refers to the original letter from Amway 4th may to quote

"Enquiries  For example, if any IBO has a planned meeting for which tickets have been sold (that is required to be cancelled and ticket purchases refunded), or
they have unsold inventory of BSM, or
have unsold Starter kits, or have completed applications not yet submitted to Amway, they may contact the dedicated enquiry telephone number – 01908-629400 (press option 4)."

With respect this part of the letter can be interpreted any ways.

The following emails are quite interesting it would appear Amway was prepared to come some wazs and then backed off.

The diamond has commented, luckily we did not have a seminar plan so our people are not owed monies. However I know BWW owe around $75-$100 thousand dollars to their ibos.

it is a real mess, they are blaming Amway and visa versa.

I would think that the wealthy diamonds in the USA will foot the bill.

I have met Bill Britt on one of the councel meetings in the past and would say he is one of the most genuine honest people I have met. I am surprised he has not sorted out this potential scandal earlier. He obviouly has not been informed that his Uk ibos are hurting and have not been reembursed.

It does beg the question that if the BWW Britt World wide dream builders have known Amway were not going to refund the ticket monies, what has happened to the 100k plus monies and why have the 1000 approx. ibos not been refunded.

Accountabilty is such a strong teaching point in all organizations, BWW are really sending out the wrong message and it going to affect us all, if they are not careful.

Lets hope Bill and Peggy Britt payout their uk ibos, sooner rather than later, it is the right and honorable thing to do. I think they will be horrified as to whats going on.

Lets hope the DTI in the UK, do not get involved in this.

May 15 2007

Dear Diamonds,

Please find attached a copy of the guidelines that Amway will use to address reimbursing appropriate costs for event cancellation. To treat every situation equally Amway will not stray from these guidelines. We appreciate your cooperation in this process. This attachment addresses what costs Amway will cover, what is required before this cost will be address and the duration of this support. I hope that this will answer any questions you or your groups may have on this subject.

Sincerely

Ben Woodward
Branch Manager, Amway UK/RoI

GUIDELINES FOR REIMBURSEMENT OF COSTS ASSOCIATED WITH CANCELLED MEETINGS:

Amway will consider offering reimbursement to IBOs who have planned events that now need to be cancelled due to the change of UK operations dated 4th May.

Before reimbursement will be considered by Amway the following needs to take place:
1. Evidence provided to Amway to satisfy them that the meeting has been cancelled (a formalised letter sent out to the group by the provider of the meeting for example).
2. Refunds offered to those who have purchased tickets.
3. All refunds have been processed and documents that support this are provided to Amway.
4. All other supporting documentation that relates to the reimbursement are provided to Amway. This would include copies of contracts signed with venues that evidence cancellation fees are required, invoices that demonstrate charges have been made etc.
5. Amway requires that meetings be cancelled promptly in response to our original requests for suspending such events.

Amway considers its reimbursement of venue costs as appropriate support. No costs associated with speaker fees, travel arrangements, accommodation etc will be reimbursed. These are the costs of doing business and will remain the responsibility of the IBO. No other costs outside of venue fees will be reimbursed.

Reimbursement as mentioned above will apply only to those meetings that were scheduled, booked and promoted prior to May 4th and were due to take place from that date (May 4th) up to the date that meeting suspensions are lifted.

Please note that failure to reimburse ticket-holders could result in Amway seeking such reimbursement on behalf of the ticket-holder, from bonuses of responsible ticket-sellers.

Subject: Important clarification to my note of yesterday re: cancellation costs

Dear Leader,

After further clarification from my upline, we need to clarify that any venue costs that Amway will consider will be in the form of a loan deducted from your bonuses. Therefore, ultimately Amway cannot bear any net financial liability for the cancellation of meetings for which tickets have been sold.

We appreciate your co-operation and understanding at this time.

Yours sincerely,

Ben Woodward

FDA Issues New Nutritional Supplement Rules

This is great news for high quality nutritional supplement companies like Univera LifeSciences. Univera has always done extensive biotech testing on their products and compounds:

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration today announced a final rule establishing   regulations to require current good manufacturing practices (cGMP) for dietary   supplements. The rule ensures that dietary supplements are produced in a quality manner, do not contain contaminants or impurities, and are accurately labeled.

"This   rule helps to ensure the quality of dietary supplements so that consumers can   be confident that the products they purchase contain what is on the label," said   Commissioner of Food and Drugs Andrew C. von Eschenbach, M.D. "In addition,   as a result of recent amendments to the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act,   by the end of the year, industry will be required to report all serious dietary   supplement related adverse events to FDA."

The regulations establish the   cGMP needed to ensure quality throughout the manufacturing, packaging, labeling,   and storing of dietary supplements. The final rule includes requirements for   establishing quality control procedures, designing and constructing manufacturing   plants, and testing ingredients and the finished product. It also includes   requirements for recordkeeping and handling consumer product complaints.

"The final rule will help ensure that dietary supplements are manufactured   with controls that result in a consistent product free of contamination, with   accurate labeling," said Robert E. Brackett, Ph.D., director of FDA's Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition.

Under the final rule, manufacturers   are required to evaluate the identity, purity, strength, and composition of   their dietary supplements. If dietary supplements contain contaminants or do   not contain the dietary ingredient they are represented to contain, FDA would   consider those products to be adulterated or misbranded.

The aim of the final   rule is to prevent inclusion of the wrong ingredients, too much or too little   of a dietary ingredient, contamination by substances such as natural toxins,   bacteria, pesticides, glass, lead and other heavy metals, as well as improper   packaging and labeling.

The final rule includes flexible requirements that can   evolve with improvements in scientific methods used for verifying identity,   purity strength, and composition of dietary supplements.

As a companion document,   FDA also is issuing an interim final rule that outlines a petition process   for manufacturers to request an exemption to the cGMP requirement for 100 percent   identity testing of specific dietary ingredients used in the processing of   dietary supplements.

Under the interim final rule the manufacturer may   be exempted from the dietary ingredient identity testing requirement if it   can provide sufficient documentation that the reduced frequency of testing   requested would still ensure the identity of the dietary ingredient.  FDA   is soliciting comment from the public on the interim final rule. There will   be a 90-day comment period, ending on September 24, 2007. Comments may be addressed   to the Division of Dockets Management Branch at www.fda.gov/dockets/ecomments

The final CGMP and the interim final rule are effective August 24, 2007.  To   limit any disruption for dietary supplements produced by small businesses,   the rule has a three-year phase-in for small businesses. Companies with more   than 500 employees have until June 2008 to comply, companies with less than   500 employees have until June 2009 to comply, and companies with fewer than   20 employees have until June 2010 to comply with the regulations.

Pay Per Post Direct vs. Review Me

The new version of Pay Per Post is now available and the program has several features that set it apart from other companies like Review Me.

Here are some of the reasons why Pay Per Post Direct might be a good choice for your blog:

1. Make money! Where other companies have a 100% mark up, Pay Per Post Direct only charges a 10% service fee. It doesn't take a pro blogger to figure out that if you have two badges on your site that advertise a review for $100 and one of them pays you $50 while the other (Pay Per Post Direct) pays you $90, which one is the good deal.

2. Security - Rather than trying to deal with advertisers on your own, why not let Pay Per Post Direct handle the details and payment transactions for you.

3. Ease of use - The Pay Per Post Direct widget is easy to install and nice looking too.

4. Taxes - Pay Per Post tracks all of your payments and then issue you a statement for your year end tax purposes.

5. Marketing - Pay Per Post is building a directory site that will help market your blog for you.

Burnlounge Drops MLM Model

The following is a Marketwave Alert from Len Clements (posted in full with permission):

As predicted in Alert #81, BurnLounge has not only dropped the payment of bonuses on the enrollment packages, they have removed the multilevel aspect of their commission system completely. BurnLounge, a reseller of downloadable music, will retain an affiliate-type compensation system where the direct seller of the download will receive a significantly larger commission, and no compensation will be paid to anyone "upline" from the seller. Essentially, there will no longer be an upline, nor any formal hierarchy of affiliates.

There was to be a hearing in front of a circuit court judge last Tuesday (June 18th) to decide whether the FTC's attempt to shut the company down would be successful. Apparently the decision to adopt a non-MLM commission structure was sufficient to avoid such an injunction (although, as of this writing, no formal decision has been announced by either party).

A company announcement is forthcoming and will appear on their web site soon. In the mean time, here is a preview of the key points to be addressed:

BURNLOUNGE SIMPLIFIES BUSINESS MODEL
New Model Will Drive Community Expansion and Greater Rewards Per Sale, Benefiting Retailers, Artists, and Partners

New York, NY, June 21, 2007 - BurnLounge, the world's first fan driven digital download community, today announced a simplification of its business model that will eliminate the network marketing element of its business while providing greater business benefit for entrepreneurial members of the BurnLounge community.

The company intends to focus on its free service and will deliver increased rewards per sale. BurnLounge will continue to build strong partnerships and high-margin product lines providing a viable business for its members and artists. The free service is comprised of BL2, the software that enables anyone to open up their own download store and become a digital retailer; and BurnPages, a personal web page with customizable widgets.

"Despite our strong disagreement with the Federal Trade Commission's complaint against the network marketing portion of the business, BurnLounge has voluntarily decided to make this bold move to show our commitment to our artists, partners, and independent retailers who have supported us from the beginning," said Grant D. Johnson, chairman and chief executive officer, BurnLounge.

Johnson added, "Network marketing was a unique channel to promote our products, but not integral to the future success of the company and its retailers. We took this strategic action to benefit the greater BurnLounge community."

With the new model, BurnLounge retailers will earn even greater compensation per sale in a more traditional affiliate marketing structure. The new model will be simpler, and retailers will soon be able to expand their businesses beyond music into high-margin entertainment products such as movies, videos, portable devices, and accessories.

"Our retailers are BurnLounge's top priority, and we will make this transition together," said Ryan Dadd, co-founder, president and chief operating officer, BurnLounge. "They have played a vital role in the growth of our company and we remain committed to their success. BurnLounge will continue to give its retailers strong revenue-generating products."

Stephen Murray, co-founder, president of entertainment and chief creative officer, BurnLounge, added, "The new model is a win-win situation for our members, the company, and for the industry. It is a revolutionary concept and a revolutionary product. Making this change to our business model to focus on our core products of BL2 and BurnPages makes it much easier to grow this community."

Quixtar to Amway Name Change Memo

Here is the Quixtar to Amway name change memo from Steve Van Andel and Doug DeVos:

To: Global Directors and Above
All U.S. Employees
From: Steve Van Andel and Doug DeVos
Date: June 5, 2007

In January, we kicked off a global effort to transform our business, under the title Growth Through Innovation. It’s been an exciting time, because wherever we look, we can see signs that we are changing our business for the better.

We want to announce one of those changes to you today.

The realities of a crowded and competitive global marketplace have made us realize that we need to “fly one flag” – to put significant resources behind establishing one opportunity brand wherever we do business.

That brand will be Amway, in North America and all over the world.

This is not an overnight change – the public won’t see the Amway name on the front of our North American business for another 18-24 months.

That’s because this is – this has to be – more than just a name change. We want other key elements of the transformation initiative to be in place before we invite customers in to see the new Amway.

Why it matters

Oklahoma Football Coach Bob Stoops and Burnlounge

Burnlounge had a large number of high profile members, but there is evidence to suggest that very little money was being made on sales of the actual product (downloadable music). With the resignation of the Burnlounge CEO, I have to wonder about the future of this company.

KOTV:

BurnloungeNORMAN, Okla. (AP) _ Oklahoma football coach Bob Stoops confirms he invested in an online business that federal regulators now say is an illegal pyramid scheme.

Stoops says he invested less than $500 in BurnLounge after it was reviewed by a group of legal and financial advisers.

BurnLounge promotes itself as having software that lets participants open their own digital download stores and sell music to online friends.

The Federal Trade Commission says in a lawsuit the operation is an illegal pyramid scheme with participants at the top of the pyramid making money by recruiting new participants who pay fees to open the digital stores.

Stoops is not named in the lawsuit.

Bill Britt Responds to Quixtar - Amway Name Change

Crown_britt I am going to give you a link to an audio "Kate" message from Bill Britt regarding the name change in a second but I have some comments first.

Britt seems to be happy and positive about the name change, but I wonder, what choice does he have?  I don't see Bill Britt having many options outside of Amway/Quixtar at this point.  There are few companies that would put up with his (let's call it stuff).

The second thing that is interesting to me is that Britt suggested that Amway/Quixtar was about to double the bonuses paid to those below the diamond level.  I have been telling people for a long time that Quixtar has one of the worst compensation plans in the industry.  Of course, IBO's argue with me (and ignore the facts) until they are blue in the face.  Now Quixway is doubling the bonus money.  If they were paying out anything near the amount of money they should have been paying, there would be no way possible to double those bonuses. If they truly are doubling the bonus money, good for them and good for Quixway IBOs.

Stay tuned. We will of course report on all of the changes.

Here is the link to the Bill Britt Audio from The Truth About Amway site.

Burnlounge CEO Alex Arnold Resigns

It's not looking good for Burnlounge as the CEO steps down to focus on personal FTC lawsuit.

The State:

Alex Arnold — head of BurnLounge, an Internet music store popular in Columbia that’s facing federal scrutiny — has resigned.

Arnold, former USC football and baseball star Rob DeBoer and two others were named in a suit filed this month by the Federal Trade Commission accusing BurnLounge of being a pyramid scheme.

The company has denied the allegations, but the lawsuit cost New York-based BurnLounge one of its founders.

Arnold “has decided to step down to focus on his personal legal situation related to the current FTC complaint and to allow BurnLounge to focus on building our business,” Stephen Murray, the company’s president of entertainment, said in a statement.

BurnLounge sells franchises to sell music on the Web, like iTunes. Arnold visted Columbia at least twice last year to pitch BurnLounge to large gatherings.

But the FTC said BurnLounge participants earn more money on commissions from selling franchises to others than from selling music.

One Company Bans The 7 Great Lies of Network Marketing After 1 Week

It looks like one company has already banned Ann Sieg's 7 Great Lies of Network Marketing.

I am waiting to see if anyone will talk about this on the record.  I have seen one elaborate Ann Sieg hate site that was obviously put together by someone close to that company.

You can download the free eBook here:
http://win.the7greatliesofnetworkmarketing.com

Ann has put together a complete system that will help people build their Network Marketing business online.  Keep in mind, the system is not a Network Marketing business. Apparently this has made some people very mad. Stay tuned.

Len Clements Marketwave Letter on Burnlounge

The following is a Marketwave letter from Len Clements regarding Burnlounge:

Early last week the Federal Trade Commission announced that they had filed a complaint in a U.S. District Court of California against BurnLounge, Inc. (actually filed on June 6th), a multilevel reseller of downloadable music via "online music stores". The FTC alleges that BurnLounge is an illegal pyramid scheme and is seeking a permanent injunction against the company (halting it's business).

According to the FTC, the BurnLounge sales pitch "represented that participants in BurnLounge were likely to make substantial income." BurnLounge recruited participants, says the FTC, by selling them tiered priced "product packages" that are offered for as much as $429.95 per year. The higher priced packages provided BurnLounge distributors with a higher paying status in the BurnLounge compensation plan.

The FTC asserts that the BurnLounge compensation plan "primarily provided payments to participants for recruiting of new participants, not on the retail sale of products or services".

The FTC has asked the court to halt the "deceptive practices and misrepresentations" and to freeze the defendant's assets (to preserve them for eventual consumer redress).

Quixtar Diamond Leaders Had No Idea Company Was Changing Name Back to Amway

According to the IBOAI web site, the high level IBO leaders (known as Diamonds) had no idea that the company was changing it's name back to Amway (from the IBOAI web site):

You should know this news came as a shock to us, too, in the form of a surprise announcement at a Founders Council meeting a few days ago. We were not consulted ahead of time and were not part of the decision. We are sorting through the details and trying to figure out how this affects all of our businesses.

It looks (to me) like more of these IBOAI leaders should spend a couple of minutes a day reading the MLM Blog.  I predicted that Amway was coming back over 6 months ago.

If Not Network Marketing, What?

I have a question for you.

If not Network Marketing, what?

What are you going to do to create an impact income?

What are you going to do to create freedom in your life, the ability to work from home?

How will you create peace, happiness and prosperity for you and your family?

My generation (men in their 30's) is the first in a long time to earn less than their father's generation. (see article) I say let's stop that trend now by starting a business of our own and teaching our children everything we know about that business.

To quote Hulk Hogan, "Whatcha gonna do?"

I'm not suggesting that everyone build a Network Marketing business, but I am suggesting that YOU DO SOMETHING and if you have a plan, share it in the comments. Let's applaud and encourage one another.

News and Links about Quixtar's Change to Amway

Less Alticor, No Quixtar = New Amway:

GRAND RAPIDS — While Amway remains a household name after more than 40 years, Quixtar still doesn't resonate with the public nearly seven years after its creation.

So direct-sales giant Alticor Inc. will phase out its Quixtar Inc. label during the next 1 1/2 to two years and rebuild its Amway Corp. brand in the United States and Canada.

There also will be less corporate use of the name Alticor, which represents a holding company.

Amway rebranding aimed to restore confidence:

Less sizzle. More sales.

That's the philosophy behind the return of Amway as the across-the-globe brand at the company known for seven years as Alticor Inc.

The privately held Ada Township-based direct sales giant will dump the 7-year-old Quixtar and Alticor names over the next 18 to 24 months.

Quixtar IBO Feedback on the Change Back to Amway

Here is some Quixtar IBO Feedback on the announced phase out of Quixtar and change back to Amway in North America (some names may be real, some are online nicknames):

The Big Apple:

This is the single best move you could have done!  I am so excited.

JaHn3tiC:

This is great news. I’ve always loved the Amway name because this business absolutely represents the “American Way.” Amway is a name to be proud of, not to hide. It represents courage, entrepreneurship, and creating wealth for all through a serious, legitimate business model.

Chillin77:

At first reaction, I must say that I am concerned and if you can bring more clarity to the reason behind this 'image infusion' it would be helpful.

Jeffery:

I am disappointed that we are bringing back the Amway name. It carries way more baggage than most people realize.

Jim Rinaldi:

I don't know what to think yet.  I was in the "old" Amway for a while, and vowed never to do that again, because of all the negative connotations.  Now so much of the same negative is associated with Quixtar, and I find myself in an LOA which heavily promotes "system" in its Open meetings, and never mentions the Quixtar name, much less Amway.

Jim Teller:

...IF QUIXTAR GOES BACK TO THE AMWAY NAME , I WILL LEAVE ASAP.

Bo (not the Bo you might be thinking of):

Please think twice before you do this. its going to be a disaster...90% of people got into the business because its not Amway. And they will quit because its Amway now.

I have put some feelers out to some high level IBOs, (an EDC and a Ruby) to see if I can get some of their opinions. So far, I haven't heard back. If you are a Ruby or above and would like to share your thoughts, you can email them to mlmblog (at) mlmblog.net (replace the (at) with @ and no spaces). You have my word that I will post your comments anonymously and I will never reveal you as a source unless you want me to do so.

Quixtar Letter to Diamonds - Here Comes Amway

The following is a letter sent to Quixtar North America Diamonds and above. I got a copy from the Inside Quixtar Blog. Enjoy...

Quixtar committed to helping IBOs grow through transformation of North American business

We are ready to transform the Quixtar business, and we need your help.

Starting today, we are putting more ideas, more innovation, and more money into our North American business than ever before.

We are doing it to make your businesses bigger than ever before, and to make the business more attractive to prospects and consumers than ever before.

This transformation will make the business more dynamic, competitive, and financially rewarding than it has ever been.

Starting September 1 – and going forward from now on – you will see from us:

1.    The infusion of more than $60 million in new bonuses and incentives ensures that we will continue to offer the best compensation in the industry.

2.     A rush of better and more competitive products to generate consumer demand.

3.     The introduction of revolutionary new products that tap into consumer trends.

4.     The increased ability to coordinate with international markets.

5.     Unprecedented investments in marketing, promotion, and media advertising.

6.     An additional investment in excess of $200 million in support of the North American business.

We are going to work together to do more to support our business owners than ever before. Everything you and your teams have learned from Quixtar since 1999 will now be joined with the immense success and name awareness of Amway around the world. The combination will be incredibly powerful for those people who are looking to build a business of their own.

Amway is already a $5 billion company in other markets. When the transformation process is complete, we will launch the new Amway in North America and (as many of you have heard) transition to the Amway name.

The convergence of Amway with Quixtar’s $1 billion business will give us real momentum. And during the interim, we will continue to enhance and support the current business model.

At the same time, the new Amway will be gathering force over the horizon. When we launch that name into the North American market, we will have created the best business opportunity any of us have ever seen.

We will stay in direct and regular contact with you through every step of the transformation. We will give you the information you need to persuade and excite your teams. And we will seek your advice and input every step of the way.

We are looking forward to transforming this business – together.

Please stay tuned to the Opportunity Zone blogs (www.opportunityzone.com) for further details and updates, and please contact us with questions or concerns.

Amway's Back - Quixtar Will Be Phased Out

Amway_logo I first predicted that some form of Amway would be back in the U.S. back in December of 2006. Then in late May, we heard additional rumblings thanks to Get The Facts - The Truth About Amway.

Now it looks like a memo has been leaked to the Associated Press with more information.

You might as well call it official...

Amway is coming back to the United States and North America.

Here is a snip from the memo:

"Research has shown us that the Quixtar name is weaker and less known in the U.S. and Canada than we ever expected," the memo said. "Meanwhile, even eight years after leaving North America, the Amway name is stronger and better known than we realized."

According to the AP report, the public will not see the Amway name for 18 to 24 months because, according to the memo:

"That's because this is - this has to be - more than just a name change,"

"We want other key elements of the transformation initiative to be in place before we invite customers in to see the new Amway."

Commentary: I think you are going to see a completely different Amway when they re-launch in 18 to 24 months and I suspect that some of the largest Quixtar/Amway leaders will be out of the company or Quixtar will spin off with current leaders becoming owners (see my predictions, before this news came down here).

Burnlounge Responds to FTC Complaint

Here is the Burnlounge response to the recent action by the FTC:

In response to inquiries, Sheldon H. Sloan, attorney for BurnLounge, Inc., today issued the following statement:

“BurnLounge is pleased with the United States District Court Central District of California’s decision refusing to grant the Federal Trade Commission’s request for a Temporary Restraining Order (TRO), and remains committed to compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.  The Court’s denial of the FTC’s request is a significant victory, and furthers the Company’s belief that it has conducted its business lawfully.  The Company’s business continues uninterrupted, and it will defend itself vigorously in subsequent Court hearings.

“Through its unique and revolutionary business model, BurnLounge will continue to afford its customers the opportunity to enjoy sharing their tastes in music and films, while providing an avenue for them to express their entrepreneurial talents.”

FTC Coming Down on Burnlounge?

MyrtleBeachOnline:

The pitches came in S.C. offices, restaurants, nightclubs, living rooms - and even the USC football complex.

How about opening your own online music store with BurnLounge?

USC receivers coach Steve Spurrier Jr. paid $500 to start his a year ago.

So did Charles Wilkie, an owner of Headliners music club in Columbia's Vista.

S.C. Attorney General Henry McMaster and his wife were asked to invest. They declined.

Former USC football standouts Rob DeBoer and Todd Ellis became two of the company's biggest promoters.

Columbia has generated more visits to BurnLounge's Web site than any other city worldwide, according to Google. Now the company that caught Columbia's eye is under scrutiny.

BurnLounge is accused of being an illegal investment scheme in a lawsuit filed by the Federal Trade Commission last week. The company declined comment Saturday.

DeBoer was named in the FTC lawsuit, along with BurnLounge, its CEO, Alex Arnold, and two Texas men, who, like DeBoer, promoted business opportunities, the FTC said. Ellis was not named in the suit.

The commission accuses BurnLounge of running a pyramid scheme because the company paid more money for recruiting new store owners than for selling music.

Operators earned bonuses up to $50 for recruiting two new operators and selling two albums a month, while paying 50 cents per album sold, the complaint said.

The lawsuit said promoters, including DeBoer, misrepresented how much they had earned.

"Guys, we've made just under $300,000. Todd Ellis' next door neighbor made $280,000. We've got a dozen people that have made over $100,000," DeBoer is quoted as saying at a recruitment meeting, according to FTC documents obtained by The (Columbia) State.

Politics is like Amway

Daryl Lenox is a comedian who isn’t afraid to tell it like it is. He has an interesting view of politics. “Politics is kinda like Amway,” he says in one of his bits. “It’s pretty good for a few people at the top. The rest of us get stuck with (crappy) products you try to pawn off on somebody dumber than you are. That’s how it works.
