MLM News From The Jakarta Globe:

As shoppers rushed in and out of the stores at Plaza Semanggi in South Jakarta on Friday, some stopped to donate blood to the Indonesian Red Cross.

Among them was Effi Prabowo, 52, a longtime blood donor.  “This is the 28th time I have given blood,” said Effi, smiling.

“I seek out events like this at which to donate blood — preferably ones that are close to my house.”

Effi said she was introduced to the habit of donating blood by her husband and found, after his death, that she could not abandon it.  “My husband liked to give blood and he got me to go along with him,” she said.

Effi donated blood for the first time in 1990 and now gives blood about four times a year.  She said she’d hoped her son would also be a frequent blood donor, but it turned out that he was afraid of needles.

Rini Astuti is a doctor who has been working for the Indonesian Red Cross for the past six years.  She said the average daily amount of blood needed by hospitals in the city was 300 units, which meant about 300 blood donations a day were needed.

100 Year-Old Ohio Woman Credits Nu Skin For Youthful Appearance

By Dan Mitchell, MLM Blog Correspondent

100 Year-old Nu Skin From Ohio.com:

Mary Elizabeth (Bricker) Fairchild — who was selected ''May Queen'' back in the day when she was a student at Akron's Central High School — still flashes the smile that scored her that long-ago title.

Indeed, the neatly coiffed Mrs. Fairchild, who turned 100 Thursday, has much to be grateful for and smile about.

Amazingly, the Cuyahoga Falls Cardinal Retirement Village resident, who still covets her independence, lives in an assisted-living apartment.

Mrs. Fairchild was born July 9, 1909, in Barberton and moved to Akron a few weeks later. Teddy Roosevelt was president.

Avon Calling and Calling and Calling

By Dan Mitchell, MLM Blog Correspondent

Here's an inspiring story about an Avon rep who's been at it for 45 years. That's dedication!

From Farsley Today:

Avon Rep Meet a Farsley woman who has been Avon calling for almost half a century. When Mollie Bradley sold her first Avon lipsticks she was a mum with a young son trying to earn a bit of extra cash – and the Beatles were beginning to take the world by storm.

Today she is 79 years old, her son Paul is aged 50 and the Beatles have long become history – but Mollie is still selling Avon cosmetics. Mollie has been Avon calling for forty five years and is one of the company's longest-serving representatives.

Avon, an American company, was introduced into the UK 50 years ago in 1959 and has become an iconic brand with the catchphrase "Ding-Dong Avon calling" becoming its signature.

At the beginning, it was seen as the very essence of American culture but soon became part of British life and the Swinging Sixties – helped by women like Mollie.

In her 45 years in the job, there have been massive changes in the world: seven different prime ministers have led the country, the internet has linked the world globally and the mobile phone has become part of life.

But Mollie's job has remained basically unchanged – except that where once she did it in hat and gloves, now she dresses more casually.

She said: "In the early days we would really dress up, especially for our monthly meetings when al the representatives got together. We would all meet at Pudsey Civic Hall, or at a hotel and discuss the latest products."

Liberty League Attacks Liberty

By Dan Mitchell, MLM Blog Correspondent

Liberty is defined as: freedom from control, interference, obligation, restriction, hampering conditions, etc.; power or right of doing, thinking, speaking, etc., according to choice.

Liberty league logo Liberty League International is taking action against cybersquatters who register domains like LibertyLeague.us that "often result in misleading unsuspecting customers..." Shane Krider, co-founder of Liberty League claims this practice will negatively affect their corporate brand and reputation. I can think of many other things that negatively affect the Liberty League brand...

This from Nadine Boisnier - Liberty League's Chief Compliance Officer:

Liberty League International, one of the world’s leading personal development companies continues to take legal action against people who are using illegal tactics on the web. The enforcement campaign has revealed a number of cybersquatters and trademark infringers.

Liberty League International, LLC, a global leader in personal development and income growth opportunities, today announced three new legal actions against cybersquatters in the United States. These legal actions, part of an ongoing intellectual property enforcement campaign, include a federal lawsuit against Tina Fields for cybersquatting and trademark infringement, a federal lawsuit against Jennifer Lawlor for cybersquatting and trademark infringement, and a domain dispute action against the registrant of the domain www.libertyleague.us. In addition to these new actions, Liberty League International revealed that it is taking a firm stance on any transgressions from settlement agreements made between cybersquatters and trademark infringers.

Cybersquatters register Internet domain names (such as www.libertyleague.us and www.theleaguereview.com) containing not only widely recognized trademarked names and brands but also confusing variations of them. This unlawful practice often results in misleading unsuspecting customers, the infringer illegally profiting from them either through online ad networks or through sales of competing services. In some cases, once the potential customer has been misdirected to the infringing website, screens filled with pay-per-click advertisements greet visitors to these Web sites, which can generate revenue for the registered domain owner and the online ad network. In other cases, the infringing website portrays itself as an unbiased comparative website, but then promotes a competing product, oftentimes by presenting false and/or misleading information about Liberty League International.

"These sites confuse visitors who are trying to engage with or learn about our company. This can negatively affect our corporate brand and reputation, impair the end-users’ experience, and steal our legitimate business" said Shane Krider, co-founder of Liberty League. "With every illegitimate ad hyperlink clicked, a registrant or ad network harvests cash at the trademark owner’s expense, while derailing legitimate efforts by customers who wish to better their lives"

Alcohol, Tobacco and Cosmetics - A Mary Kay Summer

By Dan Mitchell, MLM Blog Correspondent

From OPB News:

Mary kay logo Hard times can be busy times. That’s certainly what Bonnie Warren and Joey Levy find, taking care of their two kids, four-year-old Faye and eight-month-old Jaden, and trying to cover the bills on one one-and-one-half incomes.

But it’s summer, and the mood around the house is sunny. Bonnie’s carving out time for a new –hopefully lucrative -- venture.

Bonnie Warren   “I am a Mary Kay consultant.   I’m nervous and excited at the same time. The lady that signed me up was telling me there’s three things that aren’t being affected by the economy: that’s alcohol, tobacco, and cosmetics!”

With her peachy skin and big blue eyes, Bonnie doesn’t wear much makeup herself, but she thinks she can still be a good representative.

Bonnie Warren   “I was at Target and I did a lot of sales. And I’m really good at convincing people to do things.”

Persuasive skills are something Warren learned on her day job, as a certified nurse’s assistant at a long-term care facility. She hopes to squeeze in twenty hours a week on the beauty business.

Extra cash would go toward bills, and maybe a wedding stash. Bonnie and Joe have started talking about trying the knot in August 2010 – assuming they can afford it.

Bonnie’s  still got student loans to pay off. And Joe hasn’t been able to get back up to full-time at work yet.
