Ty Tribble and The Internet Marketing Moms

Apparently, MonaVie (and it's leaders) has been touting a trademarked ingredient called Celadrin without the permission of the trademark owner.

My opinion:

I have long thought that there was a "culture of overlooking" at MonaVie. The company first caught my attention because of it's associates illegal product claims like "curing cancer". So many of these crazy claims were taking place that it was obviously part of the culture within the company.

Culture and leadership are such a vital part of building a long term Network Marketing business and it appears as though MonaVie CEO, Dallin Larsen has sacrificed some of that for the sake of short term growth.

USANA Ordered To Pay Critic $142,510

Utah Network Marketing company, USANA was ordered to pay convicted felon and critic, Barry Minkow $142,510 after U.S. District Judge Tena Campbell ruled on March 3 that USANA violated California's anti-SLAPP (Strategic Lawsuit Against Public Participation) law.

Salt Lake City federal Magistrate Samuel Alba ordered USANA to pay $142,510 in attorney fees to Minkow and his Fraud Discovery Institute.

USANA has dropped charges of defamation but still has a charge of securities manipulation pending.

Barry Minkow served eight years in prison for stock fraud before (ironically) founding his Fraud Discovery Institute.

Who's Hotter? Xocai vs. Waiora

Time once again for Who's Hotter in in Network Marketing.  This edition pits Xocai vs Waiora.

The first graph shows current search trends traffic from Google.  In other words, how many people are searching for the terms Xocai (in blue) and Waiora (in red).

As you can see, Waiora is not even on the chart, leading us to believe that more people are searching for Xocai than Waiora.  This is usually an indicator of who is sparking more interest in the industry.

Secondly, we look at Alexa rankings which show the approximate traffic on the main web site of the company.  In this case, mxicorp.com for Xocai and Waiora.com for Waiora.

The companies appear close in the graph (you can click on either graph to see a larger image) because the graph shows day to day numbers and the companies are very close when you look at day to day traffic, but the actual ranking numbers (smaller numbers is better) are Waiora - 131,196 and 198,527 for Xocai (3 month average).

Waiora is the clear leader in site traffic over the last three months, but the companies are neck and neck on a daily basis at this time.

Based on the lack of Google searches for Waiora and the closeness of the site traffic, I estimate that Xocai is a hotter company than Waiora at the time of this posting.

MLM MythBusters: 99% Of Network Marketers Lose Money

According to the DSA:

More than half of direct sellers report that their net income from direct selling, after taxes and expenses, is positive. In addition, a positive net income is reported by nearly half of new direct sellers — those representing their current company for less than a year — and by nearly half of direct sellers who say that they are not very likely or not at all likely to continue in direct selling in the future.In addition, research shows the following:

• four in five (82%) direct sellers have been with their current direct selling company for one year or more, and 34% for five years or more.
• 88% of direct sellers rate their personal experience in direct selling as excellent, very good, or good.
• 85% of direct sellers say that direct selling meets or exceeds their expectations as a good way to supplement their income or as a way to make a little extra money for themselves.
• 91% of direct sellers say that direct selling meets or exceeds their expectations as a business where the harder they work the more money they can make.

Ty Tribble Back In The Field With Max International

After close to a year of not actively building a Network Marketing business, I am now back in the field with Max International. During my sabbatical from building, I spent nine months working with Todd Falcone as a consultant to his training business. Can you imagine having a 7-Figure Network Marketing earner pay you to work and travel with them? Needless to say, I sucked up a lot of great knowledge from Todd. I love the guy and would do anything for him. Todd is one of the most generous people I know.

Todd and I did events in Baltimore, Philly, Dallas, Chicago, Raleigh, Vancouver BC, Long Beach, and Phoenix, meeting wonderful people and tremendous leaders.

As 2007 was coming to a close, I really began itching to get back to building and shortly after that, I was exposed to Max International. I was flown into the company in the second week of January along with my business partner, Bo Short. After meeting with the company ownership and management team, seeing the long term vision and better understanding the product and compensation plan, Bo and I decided to "hit it".

The crazy part about deciding to actively build Max is that 3 days after visiting the company, I was off to Thailand for a three week vacation with my family. I bought a cell-phone in Bangkok and sent emails out on a daily basis, but I'm sure that I was little help as Bo got us qualified as top company revenue and associate recruiters in our first month (really 2 weeks).

I returned February 5th and promptly got sick for another week, but I was so excited that I would work for 30 minutes and then go back to bed for 3 hours, several times a day. On or about February 11th, I began feeling better and going all out.

In the month of February, our team (Team MaxImpact) qualified 5 people as top associate and revenue recruiters (out of nine honored by the Max International company newsletter).

One thing I want to be very clear about is that we did not target our previous group (in another company) and 99% (or more) of our growth is brand new people. Some of these new folks are earning $1,500 to $2,500 in their first month but more importantly, many are earning a few hundred dollars.

This post is not an undercover attempt at recruiting people to work with us.

It is a blatant attempt to recruit great people to work with us.

Herbalife Grows 22% In 2007 In The U.S.!

Quixtar IBO's, you need to pay attention to this!. Sorry to pick on you here, but as I have been trying to tell you, companies in Network Marketing are growing...even older companies like Herbalife.  Check this out:

The company attributed the increase in sales to double-digit growth in several of its top countries, coupled with favorable foreign currency fluctuations. U.S. sales grew 22 percent, while revenue in Taiwan rose 19 percent, Italy 22 percent and China 146 percent.

If your business is not growing, look at the overall growth of your company.  If the company  not growing either, you need to seriously consider the company you are affiliated with.  Life is too short to spin your wheels with a company that is in chaos.  Do some research and take control of your future

Federal Court Overturns Texas Law Banning Passion Parties

NewsChannel 5:

An appeals court has overturned a Texas statute outlawing sex toy sales.

The ruling by the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in New Orleans leaves Alabama as the state with the strictest ban on such devices.

Tuesday's ruling says the Texas law making it illegal to sell or promote obscene devices -- violates the 14th Amendment on the right to privacy.

Companies that own Dreamer's and Le Rouge Boutique, which sell the devices in Austin, and retailer Adam & Eve, sued in 2004.

      They appealed after a judge dismissed the suit.

The Texas Attorney General's Office, which represented the Travis County district attorney, has not decided whether to appeal.

      In 2004, a woman in Burleson was arrested for selling two sex toys to undercover officers.

Passion Parties consultant Joanne Webb was charged with violating the state's obscenity law. A judge later dismissed her case.

Orrin Woodward Teams With MonaVie?

A court injunction doesn't allow Orrin Woodward to do anything for at least another 45 days, but it looks like Orrin will bring on MonaVie as one of his suppliers in the near future.

Just a guess, but I suspect that Orrin is thinking bigger than just MonaVie.

Former Quixtar Leader and Founder of "The Team", Orrin Woodward has been blogging on a very regular basis at his site, Orrin Woodward Leadership Team. The posts are very good and I suggest you have a look.

Blogging More Heart Than Talent Conference

I didn't have a chance to post yesterday so I thought that I would give you a quick rundown from the More Heart Than Talent Network Marketing event in Dallas, Texas.

I spent most of the day networking with hundreds of entrepreneurs at Todd Falcone's table and I met some great people.  Some for the first time, others that I have known through the industry but never met face to face and others that I know well.

The speaker that I caught most of was Mark Victor Hansen (if you have a chance to see this guy, GO!).  Mr. Hansen helped me expand my thinking in a couple of areas that I will share with you later.

In addition to Mark Victor Hansen, Todd Falcone, Susan Sly and Jeffery Combs were the main speakers.  Once I get back to Seattle, I will do a post on each of them.  I will also give you a rundown on the other speakers and people that I hung out with and networked with.

One person that stands out to me is a 39 year old woman who was illiterate until the age of 29.  She has made over $1.2 million in the Network Marketing/Direct Sales industry over the last two years, overcoming some incredible obstacles.  I will make sure that you get hear her entire story in the near future.

There are a ton of leaders here and I really have to question why more people do not attend this event.  I will never miss another one. 

Positive About Network Marketing

I feel like I have beat to death the fact that Network Marketing is entering the mainstream, yet I still see people struggle with the perception of our industry. So obviously, I haven't finished my job (yet).

I recently had someone tell me that they are having trouble exposing their Network Marketing business to Real Estate professionals. Now that's funny. In case you haven't heard, Network Marketing grew by over 1 million new people in the U.S. in 2006.

How is Real Estate doing about now?

The exchange has lit a bit of a fire under my butt to expand on an article that I wrote for the book, "It's Time...for Network Marketing. Orrin Woodward's TEAM Analysis II

In my last post, I talked about how Orrin Woodward's TEAM would might see great success in a Network Marketing Binary Compensation plan.

However, I should also point out that the TEAM concept (again slightly modified) would work well (perhaps better in the long run) with a Unilevel compensation plan as long as there are some additional depth bonuses. (Univera has this type of plan.)

The Unilevel plan is considered (by many) to be the most fair plan for the average person.

In the case of Univera's compensation, the added depth bonuses (called generational bonus) allows an associate to be paid (2 to 14%) as far down as six diamond level organizations in depth.

Imagine someone from the TEAM who used to spend $300/month to make 100PV, now spending $125/month to make 100PV, with every person (on their team) netting out a larger check bonus check. That is the potential of a new plan for the TEAM.

Orrin Woodward's Team Would Tear Up A Binary Plan

I was in Phoenix over the weekend at a Network Marketing event with Todd Falcone, Jeffery Combs, Erica Combs and Michael Bernoff, where I met the owner of a Network Marketing company by the name of Michael Wenniger.  Wenniger owns Fun Unlimited which is actually being re-branded as I write this.  He has a much better name coming out soon. (I'll get you the new name once I have permission). 

Anyways, I spent a few hours hanging out with Mike and talking about his company, a binary compensation plan with health and wellness products.  The biggest claim to fame for the company is their Power Pops which are candy that help people lose weight.  Chris Angel and Britney Spears have reportedly both used the candy.

The company also has a vitamin lollipop designed for children.  Pretty unique products that seem to be priced well,  (50 cents to one dollar for the weight loss and vitamin lollipops). They also have a skincare line and a new functional beverage coming out soon and they do not have an autoship requirement in order to get your check.

Now, I mentioned earlier that this company has a binary compensation plan and for those that are not clear on comp plans, a binary has two legs or teams.  Typically (not in every case) one of the legs or teams is called the "Power Leg" and is usually built by the leaders within the company, leaving others to focus on the lesser leg.

This type of compensation plan got me to thinking about Orrin Woodward's former Quixtar group called "The TEAM".  Let me say this...I don't agree with the amount of money that the TEAM charges it's members for training, but I can not argue with their ability to bring in numbers, especially into a deal as bad as Quixtar.

What I am driving at here is that if the TEAM were to apply their strategy (slightly modified) to a company like the one Mike Wenniger owns, they would tear it up.  The binary compensation plan is focused on depth.  Mike's plan also has some matching bonus money that could bring in huge checks. 

I'm not trying to broker a deal here, just pointing out that the main problem with the TEAM is probably not the amount of money that they make on training, it was probably the company they chose to affiliate with.  If the TEAM were to build a binary with the numbers they bring in, a lot of people would be making money through products moving into the hands of consumers.

Network Marketing 2.0 - The Birth?

I had to giggle when I saw Ellie Drake and Mike Filsaime's "Birth of Network Marketing 2.0" eBook.  I have been talking (and writing) about MLM 2.0 since at least October of 2006, so that would make Network Marketing 2.0 probably more like a walking toddler instead of a newborn. But Mike Dillard talks about it going back 4 or 5 years...

Mike Dillard put it this way in a recent email:

Unfortunately “Networking 2.0” already happened 4-5 years ago when PPC, replicated sites, streaming-audio, flash presentations, and autoresponders went mainstream. Those things represented an industry shift over the previous 30+ years which relied on tapes, fax machines, and the phone. (Networking 1.0).

If we’re going to designate the evolution of the industry with a number, then we’re well on our way to 3.0 at this point thanks to social networking and what's now the equivalent of online television, which I’ll discuss in more detail in a later observation. So welcome to the party guys. Fashionably late is better than never! ;)

Mike is so right.  I sponsored 150 people in 9 months back in 2003 - 2004 by using Google Adwords to direct people to my company provided replicated web site.  That was Network Marketing 2.0, yet that would never work today, or if it did work, it wouldn't be cost effective.

Live Phoenix, Arizona MLM Training Event

We are writing you today to inquire about our Founders Platinum and QBI bonuses. To date, we have not received either of these bonuses. We have called your company several times to inquire about these bonuses. Each time we have encountered a similar response, “all bonuses affiliated with Team IBO’s are under review”. I didn’t realize the IBO’s affiliated with Team had different qualifications of those not affiliated with Team.

In May of ’07 my husband and I attended your Platinum Conference. We had a wonderful time, and your company laid out the red carpet for us. Your staff and the service went above and beyond to make our stay informative and enjoyable. We were informed there, by one of your staff members, that we were right on track for our QBI and Founders Platinum bonuses. According to our QBI tracking report for August of ’07, we are eligible for that bonus. To the best of my knowledge, 12 qualified months in 1 fiscal year also qualifies us for a Founders Platinum bonus.

We were independent business owners with your company for almost three years. As far as we know, we were business owners in good standing. Therefore, we fail to understand why you are holding our bonuses. As you know, the end of the year is rapidly approaching and we would greatly appreciate a response to this correspondence, in writing, which explains what exactly is being reviewed about our qualifications for these bonuses.

We appreciate your attention to this matter.

Are you serious?  Quixtar now pays it's IBO's at their discretion instead of actual qualifications.  What the hell?  How can any Quixtar IBO feel comfortable with that deal?

Quixtar and it's loyal IBOs are busy spouting off about the $60 million in new bonuses that the company has promised but from the looks of it, they can yank those bonuses out from underneath you at any time.

So much for the "best business opportunity in the world".

Ty Tribble Google Adwords MLM Coaching

I did a coaching session this afternoon for a couple of young ladies involved with a newer Network Marketing company called Zrii and they sent me a really cool note that I can't help but share.

I was pretty hesitant to offer coaching a couple of months ago, but with testimonies like this, I think I am going to have to continue...

UK Secretary of State for Business Agrees With Orrin Woodward About Amway Quixtar Pricing

I hate to say that I told you so (OK I really like to say it), so, I told you so.  I have been talking about Amway/Quixtar product pricing since as a big issue (the biggest issue?) since 2003.

Now the UK authorities are talking about the same issues in this recent article.

Mr Cunningham said that the vast majority of products offered by Amway to its agents were overpriced even before they were expected to add a further 20 to 25 per cent for retail. “The unattractive pricing explains some the graver vices that are at the centre of the winding-up application,” Mr Cunningham said.
